Ronda Bessner '86

Ronda Bessner has been involved in a wide range of areas of the law, including adjudication, academia, public inquiries, and policy work. Ronda Bessner is an adjudicator on the Consent and Capacity Board. She was appointed as a lawyer member in 2014. Ronda has taught at a number of Canadian law schools in the areas of Evidence, Public Inquiries, Criminal Law and Youth Justice. She has also presented and published on a number of topics including child abuse, HIV/AIDS, novel scientific evidence, and state intervention in pregnancy. In 2017, Ronda and her co-author Susan Lightstone wrote Public Inquiries In Canada: Law and Practice, published by Thomson Reuters Canada. Ronda has worked on a number of public inquiries and in law reform. She has held the position of Senior Legal Analyst at five public inquiries and co-facilitated Roundtables and presented a paper to federal Cabinet Ministers for the proposed Public Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Ronda is Past President of the Women’s Law Association of Ontario. Ronda was awarded the Law Society of Upper Canada Medal for outstanding service in the legal profession in 2016. Ronda has a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) and a Bachelor of Common Law (LLB) from McGill Law School. She has a Masters of Law (LLM) from Harvard Law School.

Naomi Loewith '05

Naomi Loewith is an Investment Manager and Legal Counsel in Bentham IMF's Toronto office. Bentham IMF is the Canadian arm of publicly listed IMF Bentham Limited (ASX: IMF), one of the oldest and most experienced commercial funders in the world. Bentham provides funding for litigation for large commercial disputes and international arbitration. Naomi provides claimants with thoughtful analysis and strategic advice at all stages of litigation and arbitration. Naomi also works closely with clients and law firms to enable them to find creative fee solutions for litigation. Prior to joining Bentham, Naomi was a litigator at Lenczner Slaght LLP. In that role, Naomi conducted trials and appeals before all levels of courts and regulatory bodies, and advised on sensitive, contentious and high-profile matters. Naomi obtained a B.A. from Western University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to her call to the bar, Naomi clerked for Justice Morris Fish at the Supreme Court of Canada. Naomi is on the Board of the Paul Penna Downtown Jewish Day School, and is a parent mentor for the Bob Rumball Center for the Deaf. Naomi and her husband are the proud parents of three young boys.

Full Professor of Law, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, SJD'07. Her work focuses on feminist legal reform in Latin America. She has written extensively on family law, constitutional law and legal theory. Among her most representative work are the books: "Mujeres, Cortes y Medios" (with Tatiana Alfonso) and "Feminismo y Crítica Jurídica" (with Helena Alviar). In 2017 she was nominated to the Constitutional Court by President JM Santos.

Jo Levy is Vice President and General Counsel, Asia Pacific and Japan, for Intel Corporation. Her responsibilities cover 18 countries and include all sales and marketing, product design and development, technology and manufacturing, and IP legal issues in the region. Jo is also co-chair of Intel’s Asia Network of Executive Women. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2018, Jo was Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Intel Corporation. In this role, she built Intel’s worldwide ethics and legal compliance program, oversaw internal investigations directed by Legal, and served as Co-Chair of Intel’s Ethics & Compliance Oversight Committee. During her tenure, Intel’s ethics and compliance program received multiple awards, including Best Regulatory Compliance Department, Trace International’s Innovation in Compliance Award, and recognition as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Institute for seven years in a row. Jo began her career as a litigation attorney, developing extensive expertise in class action, intellectual property, product liability and aviation litigation before joining the Intel Litigation Group. She has served as a court-appointed lawyer representative for the Northern District of California Judicial Conference, a Conference Executive Committee member of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, a court-appointed mediator, and a faculty instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Ms. Levy is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Brandeis University.

From 2012 to 2013, Ms. Aggarwal was a foreign associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in London. Ms. Aggarwal is a graduate of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore (B.A., LL.B. (Hons.), 2007) and Harvard Law School (LL.M., 2012), and admitted to the Bar in India and New York.

Diana Philip has an LL.M from Harvard Law School where she focused on Public International law. She has experience working with leading organisations across five continents including the UNICTR in Tanzania, UNICEF in India, and Independent Diplomat in New York, USA. Diana currently works with Strategic Foresight Group (SFG), a foreign policy organization based in Mumbai, India on multidisciplinary issues involving environment, public international law, international relations and human rights. She manages projects involving water disputes between countries in some of the most politically challenging regions in the world. She has contributed to several UN processes including at the UN Security Council and has expertise in advising governments on conflict resolution and prevention issues. Diana has been widely published and continues to consult for governments and organizations across the globe.

Dr. Yael Aridor Bar-Ilan is the founder of a leading Israeli boutique law firm specializing in commercial and corporate litigation. The firm was established in 2016 by Dr. Aridor Bar-Ilan after years as a partner in a big law firm, with the aim of offering her clients personal and dedicated legal services. Dr. Aridor Bar-Ilan has many years of experience representing clients in cases of complex commercial disputes and in consulting clients prior to legal proceedings. Dr. Yael Aridor Bar-Ilan holds a Doctorate degree in Law (S.J.D.) from Harvard Law School. She has an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University (magna cum laude) and a B.A. in Economics from Tel Aviv University (magna cum laude). She is an adjunct lecturer at Tel Aviv University school of law and IDC Herzliya school of law, she lectures at professional training seminars, and publishes articles on legal matters.

Annalisa Ciampi is currently a Full Professor of International Law at the University of Verona, a Visiting Professor of European Human Rights Law at Monash University, and ad hoc judge to the European Court of Human Rights. An attorney at Law since 1996 and a Professor of Law since 2005, she served in various international capacities, including as member of the European Committee of Social Rights, expert to the Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law of the Council of Europe, ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights, legal adviser to the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, visiting professional with Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court and most recently as UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. In 2019, she was included in the Italian databank of Experts of International Politics www.100esperte.it and, since 2020, is Ambassador for ENWE, the European Network for Women Excellence – an advocacy group to bridge the gender gap in Europe (enwe.org).
